What sets one decanter apart from another

The body and the stopper decide the use and the keeping:

• Cut crystal. The facets scatter the bar light and disguise the changing level of the drink.
• Plain glass. It shows the colour of the spirit clearly — it works best with whisky and cognac.
• Ground stopper. This is what holds the aroma inside; without a good seal, the spirit loses intensity over time.
• Wide mouth. It makes filling and, above all, cleaning easier — the tedious part of owning a decanter.
• Heavy base. It prevents the fall on a bar cart, which is where the piece usually lives.
• With matching glasses. A decanter and tumblers from one line finish the cart and need nothing else.
