What sets one charger apart from another

The material decides how the table reads:

• Plated metal. Silver for a classical table, gold for the evening — it reflects candlelight beneath the plate.
• Wood. A warm contrast under white china, and a more informal reading.
• Stainless steel. Resistance for frequent use, with the same reading as plated metal.
• Diameter. It has to be larger than the starter plate, with a visible border all round — that is what creates the effect.
• Worked rim. Relief and pattern show exactly on the band that stays exposed.
• Quantity. One per place, so count by the full table.
