What sets one rack apart from another

The hook and the fixing decide the use; the finish decides the room:

• Metal with ceramic or porcelain. The body gives structure and the coloured detail gives the design — which is what makes it work in a powder room without looking utilitarian.
• Wood. A warmer, more informal reading, for a bedroom, a hallway or a utility room.
• One hook or several. One hook is a resting point and an object; several settle the entrance of a house and a whole family.
• With a mirror. It combines both functions on the entrance wall, where space is usually short.
• Fixing. It decides how much weight the piece takes: a wet coat weighs far more than it looks.
• Height. In a powder room, at hand height; at an entrance, high enough that a coat does not drag.
