What sets one clock apart from another

Where it goes decides the size; the material decides the rest:

• Table clock. A small piece for a console, a desk or a shelf — it works alongside books and boxes in the same composition.
• Wall clock. It takes the place of a picture and has to be read from a distance: a clean dial works better than a busy one.
• Metal. Exposed structure, visible movement on some models, and a more mechanical reading.
• Marble. Weight in the base and unique veining — the clock that doubles as a small sculpture.
• Leather. A covered body, warmer to the touch, for a desk or home office.
• Glass and crystal. They leave the mechanism on show and work with the light of the room.
