About the piece

Product Information❯

The Matéria Solar wall sculpture by Marcia Mello for Artimage uses relief, texture and contrasting color to give the composition a strong visual presence. The papier-mâché sculpture with quartz powder sits over a painted MDF backing, surrounded by a mustard-toned wooden frame. These layers bring depth to the piece and emphasize the sculptural quality of its materials.

Measuring 88 x 118 x 7 cm, this large-format work is suited to living rooms, entryways and offices where art plays a part in defining the space as well as decorating the wall.

Materials and Composition❯

Construction

Technique: sculpture
Sculpture material: papier-mâché with quartz powder
Backing: painted MDF
Frame: mustard-toned wood
Front: glass

The backing, frame and raised sculptural element form distinct layers within the composition. Rather than presenting a flat image, the work uses actual relief to give the surface depth and make its texture a central part of the piece.

Dimensions and Visual Presence❯

Measurements

Width: 88 cm
Height: 118 cm
Depth: 7 cm
Weight: 21 kg

The vertical format and mustard-toned frame give the work a clearly defined outline. Within that border, the textured surface and central relief create shifts in shadow and perceived depth throughout the day.

Suggested Placement❯

This piece works well as a focal point on a wall with breathing room around it. Its sculptural volume, pronounced frame and contrast between a soft background and textured element suit living rooms, entryways, offices and interior passageways.

It is a choice for those drawn to art with visible material texture and a three-dimensional composition, rather than a conventional flat picture.
