What sets one glass apart from another

Start with what you pour, then think about the material:

  • Highball. For gin, tonic-based drinks and soft drinks: more ice, less exposed surface and a drink that stays cold longer.
  • Rocks. Whisky, neat spirits and short drinks served without ice. The wide rim brings the aroma closer.
  • Crystal. A heavy base, thin walls and the sound it makes on the counter. This is the glass of a properly built bar.
  • Acrylic. Pool, terrace and outdoor bar. Broken glass near bare feet is the one accident not worth the risk.
  • Cut and relief. It scatters the bar light and hides fingerprints — the detail that makes a glass look more expensive than it is.
  • Coloured. It helps everyone keep track of their own glass when the house is full, and it composes with the counter.
