What sets one pendant apart from another

Height and number of sockets decide the effect:

• Adjustable height. It lets you correct after installation, which is what saves the job when the ceiling is not the one you expected.
• One socket. Concentrated light on a point — good in a row, aligned over an island or a counter.
• Several sockets. It settles a whole table with one piece and replaces a chandelier in a smaller room.
• Closed shade. It throws light downward and does not dazzle the person seated opposite.
• Open shade or glass. It spreads the light and lights the room as well as the point.
• In a row. Three identical pendants over an island need equal spacing and the same height — that is what makes the installation look intentional.
