What sets one tumbler apart from another

Surface work and height decide the use:

  • Cutting. The cuts scatter the bar light and give the hand grip — it is what makes a whisky glass feel heavier than it is.
  • Clear. It shows the colour of the drink; the choice for aged spirits.
  • Coloured. In crystal the colour runs through the piece and shifts with the light, unlike ordinary coloured glass.
  • Short. Whisky, neat spirits and drinks served without ice: a wide rim that brings the aroma close.
  • Tall. Long drinks with ice and tonic, where the height preserves the fizz.
  • In sets. A closed set guarantees the same brilliance and the same height across every glass on the table.
