What sets one piece apart from another

Start with the function, then the capacity:

Enamelled steel kettle. It goes on direct flame, heats fast and most models whistle when ready.
Stoneware teapot. It does not go on the heat, but it holds the warmth of the infusion longer than fine porcelain.
Teapot shape. A wider body, which gives the leaf room to open in the water.
Fine spout. It pours in a thread without splashing pale china or overflowing the cup.
Capacity. Too small means standing up mid-service; too large and it cools before it is finished.
Colour. The same as the cookware, which gives the hob and the table one reading.
