What sets one piece apart from another

The metal goes where the hand touches and where the light falls:

• Metal base. It gives the glass weight and stability, and reflects the light of the table from below.
• Metal stem. It separates the hand from the drink and becomes the visible detail of the piece.
• Silver plating. A classical reading, for a set table with white china.
• Gold plating. It warms the table and performs at night, with candlelight nearby.
• 18/10 stainless steel. It does not darken or stain, which matters on a piece that goes to the table every week.
• Washing. A plated piece asks for hand washing and drying straight after.
