The body and the spout decide the use:

• Enamelled steel. It heats fast, takes direct flame and brings the colour of the cookware to the hob.
• With a whistle. It tells you when the water boils, which is what stops it boiling dry and ruining the piece.
• Fine spout. It pours in a thread and lets you wet coffee grounds evenly, without overflowing the cup.
• High handle. It keeps your hand away from the steam leaving the spout and the body.
• Capacity. Worth thinking about how many cups your house serves at once.
• Hob type. Not every piece works on induction — this is what to check before ordering.
