What sets one mug apart from another

Wall, handle and material decide daily use:

Enamelled stoneware. Thick walls that keep coffee hot for longer — the difference shows at the bottom of the cup.
Glass. It shows the drink in layers, which changes a latte and a tea.
Stainless steel. It does not break and holds temperature, for an office or a trip.
Patterned porcelain. Pattern on the piece, for when the mug is a gift or a spot of colour on the counter.
The handle. Your finger has to fit with room to spare — a small handle heats the hand, and that flaw only shows in use.
Capacity. A short coffee asks for a smaller piece; latte and tea ask for volume, or it overflows on the first sip.
